Welcome to the Centre for Liver and Digestive Disorders based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This Centre is part of the University Hospitals Division of NHS Lothian.
The Centre encompasses the Endoscopy Unit, GI & Liver Laboratory, Ward 205 and OPD 4, and is closely linked with the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit.
| Endoscopy Unit The Endoscopy Unit performs a number of endoscopic procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of digestive disorders. This is a busy clinical unit that has strong links to other departments within the University Hospitals Division. The main links include the Department of Medical Physics (GI research), Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Surgery, Department of Radiology (TIPSS insertions for variceal bleeding), Medical Day Case, Scottish Liver Transplant Unit and the GI & Endoscopy Unit at the Western General Hospital. |

| GI & Liver In-Patients (Ward 205) Ward 205 is a 27 bedded, mixed sex ward specialising in patients of all age groups, with Gastrointestinal (G.I.) & Liver disorders. Although this unit is part of the surgical directorate, it is in fact a medical ward. Patients are referred to 205 from other hospitals within Scotland, by GPs as well as from within the hospital. |

| Scottish Liver Transplant Unit There is a close link between CLDD and the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit. The wards serving both units are next to each other and four of the physicians within CLDD also work on the Liver Transplant Unit. The Scottish Liver Transplant Unit (SLTU) provides a national service for the care of patients before and after liver transplantation. It also provides care for patients with acute liver failure.
